After more than two years of sustained advocacy and engagement, Spensley Street Primary School will now be among Victorian schools receiving much-needed investment. This outcome reflects the persistence of the school community and the importance of raising local concerns at the highest levels.
Education Minister Carroll announced just yesterday that $762 million will be invested over the next four years to build and expand schools. Ensuring students across Victoria have access to modern, high-quality learning environments.
This is a real win for our community and a real step forward for education infrastructure. Labor delivered just as promised.
Among the 54 schools set to benefit from these upgrades, our local champions Spensley Street Primary, Merri-bek Primary, Melbourne High, and Essendon North Primary are just a few of the schools receiving vital investment to improve facilities and support growing student communities.
These projects form part of a broader effort to improve facilities and accommodate growing student populations across the state.
Earlier concerns about the condition of facilities at Spensley Street Primary School were raised directly with the Minister for Education and the Treasurer, echoing the experiences and feedback of families, students and staff. This funding announcement demonstrates that those voices have been heard and acted upon.
Local resident Sarah McKenzie and Federal Member Ged Kearney have been key players of advocacy for Spensley Street Primary School, going above and beyond to ensure students have access to safe, modern and high-quality learning environments.
However, this is not the end of the investment pipeline.
An additional $1.6 billion in school infrastructure commitments is set to be announced next Tuesday, further strengthening the Government’s focus on education and long-term planning for growing communities.
These upgrades will help ensure that students at Spensley Street Primary School and across Victoria can learn in safe, modern and supportive environments. Improved facilities not only enhance the day-to-day experience of students and teachers, but also contribute to better educational outcomes and stronger community connections.
It is encouraging to see advocacy translate into tangible results. Continued investment in school infrastructure is essential to meeting the needs of current and future students, and to maintaining the high standards expected across Victoria’s public education system.
We’re continuing to deliver new schools, upgrades and expansions – because every student deserves access to safe, modern and respectful places to learn.
Labor has done just that.
